County Board Intern

Department: County Board

Part-time, Hourly

Hourly Pay: $15.00/hr

 

Job Summary

Seeking a student pursuing an education at a university or technical school, with a focus on public policy, political science, rhetorical leadership, public and non-profit administration, and/or law for a part-time, under twenty (20) hours per week (approximately), paid internship position with the Milwaukee County Board of Supervisors, the legislative branch of County government. The position will pay $15.00 per hour under a period of up to one college semester (i.e., the first day of class to the last day). Paid intern(s) will report to County Board Chairwoman and provides services to department and district Supervisory offices.

 

An eligible candidate must be highly organized and able to:

  • Prioritize work assignments with moderate supervision
  • Balance assignments from multiple staff to support both district and departmental projects

A qualified candidate will be adept with technology and:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and cloud-based applications

A preferred candidate is a capable communicator with interest in public service and has:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Enthusiasm for public communications

 

Daily Responsibilities: Support daily projects. Generate posts for official County Board social media. Attend committee meetings on behalf of the Board. Support County Supervisors with legislative projects related to public policy, constituent services, citations, and coordination of County Board presentations. Assist with constituent reports and events. Provide support with Intergovernmental Relations, such as tracking legislation. Complete the process of sorting records for historical retention. Front desk reception services.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma and proof of enrollment at a post-secondary school required.

Licensure: Driver’s License preferred. Must have access to reliable transportation to attend in person events or for in person work in the County Board office.
