Junior Project Manager (IRAP Student Co-op)

Position Description:  

Information Research (IR) is the technology group that supports businesses across AbbVie’s R&D value chain. IR Academic Partnerships (IRAP) embeds students within AbbVie businesses to collaborate on projects that help advance our science. During the regular fall and winter/spring terms, this program is designed for students to work 12-15 hours/week in parallel with their school schedule. During the summer, students are expected to work 35-40 hours/week. 

The Junior Project Manager will be responsible for assisting in the coordination and execution of various projects within AbbVie's R&D value chain. This role will support the Project Management team in ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget. The student will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure project objectives are met and will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in project management within a fast-paced and dynamic environment. 

  

Major responsibilities include: 

  • Assist in the planning, execution, and monitoring of projects, ensuring adherence to project timelines and deliverables.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather project requirements and document project scope.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of project plans, including task lists, timelines, and resource allocations.
  • Monitor project progress, identify and mitigate risks, and communicate project status updates to stakeholders.
  • Assist in the coordination of project meetings, including scheduling, agenda preparation, and documentation of meeting minutes.
  • Support the development and maintenance of project documentation, including project charters, risk registers, and issue logs.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project management processes and tools.
  • Provide administrative support to the Project Management team, including organizing project files, updating project documentation, and managing project-related communications.

Qualifications: 

  • Undergraduate in Operations Management, Business Administration, or other related fields
  • Basic technical knowledge and understanding of project management principles.
  • Creative and organized problem solver with the ability to understand the larger picture without losing focus on details.
  • Experience working in a team setting and ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to plan and anticipate potential issues that may impact project development and progression
  • Willingness to engage in independent learning and stay updated on project management best practices.
  • Must be able to commit to a regular schedule during standard business hours (12-15 hours per week during the semester; 35-40 hours during the summer).
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent.
  • Authorized to work in the US on a permanent basis without requiring visa sponsorship.
  • All students are expected to work 2 to 3 days per week in-person at Abbott Park during the summer.
