Communications Writer (IRAP Part-Time Co-op)

Position Description:  

The Employee Experience Content & Communication team within Business Technology Solutions (BTS) is responsible for improving technology-related information at AbbVie. We want to ensure our content is clear, consistent, delivered in the right place and presented at the right time. We are seeking a highly motivated and proactive student to join our small team. 

In this position, you will play an important role in helping our 50,000+ colleagues find and use the technology information they need to get their work done. If you have ever found a website or instructions overly complicated and thought to yourself, “That’s confusing. Why did they write it that way?” then you have the mindset we’re looking for! This position is ideal for someone who enjoys helping others, has an eye for detail and is comfortable asking questions to gain clarity. 

Major responsibilities include: 

  • Reviewing and editing internal content provided by project teams to ensure it is clear, accurate and easy to follow.
  • Working with communications partners to review and edit news stories before they are published to our internal sites.
  • Writing internal news stories and a monthly newsletter.
  • Working with subject matter experts and using communications platforms, including Staffbase, Microsoft Teams, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Collecting and analyzing metrics from communication channels to derive insights and inform decision-making processes.

Qualifications:  

  • Strong writing and editing skills to craft clear and concise content
  • Strong collaborator with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong ability to manage tasks and prioritize effectively
  • Enthusiasm for learning and a desire to grow in the fields of UX and communications
  • Pursuing an undergraduate degree in UX, Communications or a related field
  • Must be able to commit to a regular schedule during standard business hours (12-15 hours per week during the semester; 35-40 hours during the summer)
  • Cumulative minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0, or equivalent
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. on a permanent basis without requiring future visa sponsorship
  • Must be registered as a full-time student
  • Lake County and Kenosha County students are expected to work 50% of their hours in person at Abbott Park during the academic year.
  • All students are expected to work 2 to 3 days onsite at Abbott Park during the summer.  

 

Preferred: 

  • Ability to create visually appealing designs
  • Familiarity with Associated Press Style Guide

 

Note: The position will be hired through a third-party hiring agency and will begin May 2024.

Information Research Academic Partnerships embeds students within AbbVie businesses to collaborate on projects that help advance our science. During the regular fall and spring semesters, this program is designed for students to work 12-15 hours/week in parallel with their school schedule. During the summer, students are expected to work 35-40 hours/week.
