Internship - Field Technician

On any given day, you’ll:
- Perform construction management/oversight of municipal infrastructure projects in the northern Wisconsin area.
- Perform quantity measurements and computations, record keeping, contractor pay estimate preparation and review of contractor progress; materials testing; field staking and general inspection for municipal road projects.
- Maintain client and subcontractor relations while in the field.
- Interpret construction drawings and specifications and take appropriate action to ensure the project is constructed in conformance with the requirements of the project construction contract.
- Prepare plans and research design standards and code requirements and conduct field investigation of design problems.
- Analyze sketches, notes, and provide input to determine best approach to complex drawings.
Required qualifications:
- Strong written/verbal communications skills and the ability to operate independently.
- Ability to walk over uneven terrain and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
Desired skills and experiences:
- An understanding of municipal infrastructure construction management, including sanitary sewer, storm sewer, water main, and roadway construction experience.
- In-depth understanding of the construction industry.
- working towards an associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering technology or construction management.
- Experience in Civil 3D and AutoCAD.
- Staking/survey experience
- WisDOT project development process; traffic counts; construction observation and materials testing for DOT projects.
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal rules and regulations related to general construction practices.
